Patch notes for tonite's reboot
**⚡ The Void is now a buff hub** Beneficial buffs and item-summon spells cast in the Void are instant and cost 25% less mana. Pop in, buff up, restock, and get back out fast.
**✨ Smarter auto-buff (buffs)**
- No more wasted casts —
buffs now casts only the best version of each buff instead of stacking Minor → Lesser → Greater over itself. - **
buffs block <name>** — tell it to permanently skip a buff you don't want (e.g. buffs block clarity). buffs unblock <name> to undo, buffs block to see your list. It's saved to your character. - **
buff stop** — stop a buff run early. - **
cast stop** — interrupt whatever you're currently casting.
**🔍 Identify is improved** Casting Identify actually works now, and it tells you more: how many recipes a tradeskill container can make, and which quest NPCs want an item as a hand-in.
**🎭 Illusions in the room** An illusioned player now shows in the room as who they appear to be — e.g. "Void the Drakkin" instead of just "Void."
**🪙 Digging** Digging up treasure now has a chance to also turn up a small radiant shard.
**🧹 Fixes & polish**
- Spell messages now reach as far as the spell does, instead of only your exact spot.
- Buffs and heals can only be cast on yourself, other players, and pets — no more accidentally healing an enemy that shares a name with your target.
- Cleaned up a few clunky spell messages (fizzles and "buff bar full" now read properly).

Repaired tradeskill recipe matching, including stacked components and Spider/Spiderling Silk recipes. Corrected low-level NPC coin handling and grouped coin rewards. Repaired boat routes, added automatic run boat to <zone> landmarks, distinct vessel names, return trips, and nearby arrival announcements. Added concise leveling and boat guides and corrected Ton Twostring’s quest response.

1. Redid the creation/rebirth process to flow better, show full zone names, show full deity names 2. Tons of re-work to the tutorial. Please give it a try! Absor can now buff you 'say help' which makes the starter spiders quite easy 3. both 'inventory' and a merchant's 'list' have been improved for brief (screen reader) mode 4. weight removed from the left column of inventory 5. more effort to remove disciplines that can't be achieved from 'spells' and 'disciplines'. some of them were achieved from AAs which arent in-game yet 6. improved merchant 'list' output with colorization 7. some default filters added to merchant list like list armor, list weapon, list ammo

Couple small updates with this morning's reboot...
1. Player to player trade is enabled. It tests well for me, LMK if it needs any work. It's very similar to EQ in-game trade where both sides have to accept the deal. 2. disciplines added as a synonym to activate. 3. 'disciplines' now works like 'spells', but for discs.
remember commands can be abbreviated so you can just type discs or whatever.

**Tiny update tonite**
Berserker's Corroded Axe discipline now properly summons a stack of 20 axes.
This fixes any other spells that summon stacks of items too. I'm sure there's at least one more!

Some updates!
**Combat**
Special attacks like kick now hit for sane amounts (they were badly over-tuned). Spell crits actually double your damage now, instead of just saying "crit blasted" and doing nothing.
**New buffs command (BETA, feedback needed!)**
Smart-casts your best missing buffs. buffs me buffs yourself; also buffs <target>, buffs pet, buffs group, buffs instant. Just typing buffs reports what you can cast and which buffs you could still scribe — it won't cast anything. Casts your core buffs (stats/AC/HP/haste/movement) by default; resists and situational stuff (invis, vision, etc.) are opt-in via buffs resist / buffs extra / buffs all.
**spells command**
Filter by category: spells resist, spells situational, spells movement.
Disciplines (Throw Stone, Heroic Leap, etc.) no longer clutter the list.
**Casting on pets**
You can heal/buff your pet from a room away (within the spell's range) — cast renew elements at elemental works now. Pet spells automatically land on the right pet for that spell (e.g. your magician pet).
**Auto-loot**
Looting ammo you already use tops up your ammo slot (or quiver) instead of dumping it in your loot bag. auto loot still has to be configured correctly.
**Help files**
Updated effects, spells, and buffs help; added race descriptions (looks, temperament, home city) to help races.

TUNE NIGHT!
Attack (offense) rating was 'fixed', resulting in more attack for all classes, improving melee damage. Monks and beastlord hand 2 hand was rolled back slightly, but still improved thanks to this new calc.

Few updates..
kill now targets and starts attacking in one command (works like kill <name> or kill #). equip <item> <slot> — choose the slot for multi-slot items (e.g. equip partisan back). Disciplines no longer hang and spam (Done!) (Corroded Axe and others). Quest NPCs no longer freeze mid-path.

Some updates
Pet bags at the Void class vendors now cost ~1 platinum (were 30p).
Selling: sell all will never sell your equipped gear.
Buying: partial item names now work — if several items match, you'll get a numbered list to pick from. buy 10 arrow style quantities still work.
New: combine <bag> repeat — combines, then automatically refills the bag from your inventory so you can combine again right away. Warns you when you run out of materials. (help combine)
Pet spells like Renew Elements now automatically hit the right pet — no need to target it first, and multiclass characters heal the pet matching the spell's class. +Melee Damage is now a real stat — items and augs with all-skills extra damage boost your weapon swings too, not just kicks and bashes.
New craftable aug: Warforged Echo of Carnage — +5 melee damage / +5 spell damage. Forged in a Class I Augmentation Crucible. Recipe details are in Discoveries of Void-Touched Augmentations at the Void aug vendor.
Some missing class/race combos were made available like troll berserker. some races are still not yet available.

Ammo now can be epic or legendary status also. Crafted ammo is _always_ legendary and will gain damage and stats like weapons do.

We now have a bazaar. see the 'baz' command, help bazaar. There is also a bazaar channel - channel add bazaar to join.. new players will be joined automatically. This means you can now trade with eachother, only through the bazaar for now.
The game now supports partial commands like 'b' for bazaar. closest alphabetical hits first. Complete verbs are honored first. See 'which' command to detect where your verb is being trapped: > which b b -> /bin/player/_baz.c (baz)
We now have an 'eq' command which shows only your equipped equip and empty slots.

Version 1.0 of auto-loot is in. See 'help loot' for full syntax and options.
Basically you can define a bag, like a backpack, as your junk loot backpack. you can overfill the backpack, but obviously cant manually put anything else into an overfull backpack.

Updates
Fixed Summon Phantom Leather so it summons the Phantom Satchel and places the phantom leather armor pieces inside instead of showing Unhandled spell effect: 109.
Updated class skill access so abilities like Kick now work properly from secondary and third classes too. The game now checks your actual current skill caps across all selected classes, instead of relying on a limited hardcoded ability list, so multiclass characters should get the usable combat and utility skills they qualify for.
Made pets dismiss/depop cleanly when rebirth begins.
Improved run zone-line support: Zone-line help now shows known exits that are on another map layer as not currently accessible.
Added a ladder landmark to guktop so you can easily transition to the lower layer, then run to gukbottom. Reviewed guktop to confirm gukbottom exits are on a different Z layer, so players should run to a landmark/layer transition first, then run to the zone line.
Reviewed pet proc behavior for Spirit of Lightning. Confirmed the spell data is valid. Fixed unarmed pet proc chance so natural pet attacks use a real attack delay instead of zero. Pet procs wont change drastically but this was a legit bug.

Patch tonight!
Added brief mode for a more screen-reader friendly experience. Brief mode hides the mini map, suppresses the spammy prompt, and keeps status available through hp. Target lists, tracking, login help, and who output are now cleaner for screen readers. look now avoids repeating “No NPCs in range” constantly while running. Fixed Gfaydark tracking/pathing issues where NPCs could appear “here” but not be reachable. When you walk off the platforms in Kelethin, you will fall to the ground. No fall damage yet. Added support for walkable map tiles that bump players up or down a layer, used for Gfaydark. Fixed skill grants when selecting additional classes, so new class skills unlock at the appropriate training level instead of instantly maxing. Prevented equipped items from being destroyed accidentally, and added destroy confirmation for other items. Improved item matching for vendors, equipment, and exact-name purchases. Fixed several quest hand-in edge cases that could double-complete or mishandle stacked items. Added small passive regen for summoned pets. Fixed casting/fizzle cases that could incorrectly stop melee combat. Fixed multiple movement and NPC run-target crash cases.

UPDATE (6/27):
1. The Story Board - early beta version will be present in the void (NE of the rift). The story board is basically a story based task system where you accept tasks, and go complete them. Sort of a scavenger hunt. You can earn money and experience from these! If its not good enough let me know, we'll adjust it. This is a really early version, so expect there to be bugs like sending you to zones you can't access yet!
2. Vendor upgrades in the Void. Ranger vendors added to the SW. They also have some starter ranger stuff. Bard instruments added to bard vendors.
3. some default class help files were added. they're not super useful yet but see help class guides.
4. Casting beneficial spells now properly targets you, if no target is provided.

help getting stringer help sympathetics
3 sympathetics augs have been created (healing, dots, blasts). information can be purchased in the void from the mage, necro, and cleric guild masters. These augs are similar to the crafted augs from the Gemcrafter, but the items are farmed from the Hole, and Nagafen's Lair. They are worth making!

Updates 6/9/26!
1. increased outdoor daylight visibility by 50ft. increased nighttime visibilit by 20ft. 2. 'run' now supports running to another zone line. very helpful for new players running thru zones (especially neriakc->neriakb->neriaka->nektulos). now its easy. 3. fixed all neriak zones and both freeports - there were some mistakes and you could accidentally run into the white space. oops!
please lmk if 'run' in any zone sends you into the whitespace that isnt supposed to be walkable. it could happen.

you can now 'vote' for Beyond the Void using the mudvault website, and receive in-game rewards. you'll get a 25% exp potion and a silver token that can be turned in for random rewards. trade the token to the void touched spirit, in the Void zone.

'run' has been improved. it can now run with better acurracy toward any spot on the map, even around major obstacles.
all races also now have built-in void stones. this allows players to navigate to their local newbie zones easily.
both of the above should help with navigating big confusing zones like neriak.

We now have a Tutorial process.
The Tutorial is offered to new players and every time you rebirth. You can access the Tutorial at any time from the Void - it's n,nw,nw,nw,nw from the Void Rift. You can try out the Tutorial with no risk and leave at any time.
LMK what you think of the tutorial. I wanted to use it to address a few complaints I heard from new players in the past months such as confusion about the maps and the target list.

UPDATES!
1. East Freeport is now available. It's connected up to west freeport, and north ro. No boats were connected but the translocator is there on the docks. 2. Human race and Wood elf race are now available and can start in freeport or gfaydark. 3. Item 'light' and vision have been implemented. 4. score now shows your visibility stats:
Vision: Normal +light source Distance: 50ft
See Invisible: no
The above example is for human who has shitty base vision.
Light sources matter, in the dark.
Ultravision and infravision matter.
5. your vision range will affect the distance you can see npcs on your target list
6. your vision range will be indicated on the mini map. anything outside your range will be gray
Not sure if the initial values on vision are ideal but please send feedback. Human is pretty rough with no infra/ultravision - can only see 50ft. Other races with infra/ultra can see a bit further. we can always integrate improved vision into other things like rebirths.

Airplane got some new colors applied. More dirt!
Quests got a big round of repairs. I've been blanket testing all quests scripts, this should be a much more dependable quest system.

Fixed a quest regression, basically broke 'trade' in several ways. Tested coin and item turn-ins, so far all is OK.
Keep an eye out for quest bugs like this I'm sure more will pop up. I'll try to come up with better testing for quests.

Also, bard songs stop refreshing if you are >120s idle. they will begin again once you become active.

for suspendable bard songs, you will no longer be spammed for each song you're keeping active. There is a small chance for a general bard message, but all of the songs themselves will be suppressed.

Fixed a few bugs, must have regressed with all the other work going on.
1. see invis npcs now properly see invis. same with see itu, see sneak (but I didnt test this one) 2. some spells were casting instantly. fixed this.

Improvements tonite:
1. targeted bard songs like Selo's Consonant Chain were dropping too quickly. that has been fixed. Keep in mind getting stunned can still force your song to come to a close.
2. general improvements for boats. a few boats were renamed instead of pirate skiff. boats now show which zone they will head to. also there was a bug with at least 1 boat which left it circling around in the ocean forever 🙂
3. translocator in Butcher works now.

Skyfire is now available and connected to the Overthere. No zone connections yet to Veeshan's peak or the Burning woods.
Druid and Wiz portal spells to Skyfire should work, if they can be obtained by level 50.

Some bugfixes including usable skills for Bards.
Kedge Keep is now open. The zone is the only fully underwater zone, so bring your waterstones. It functions almost exactly like the original zone, with a few modifications to the ways the water tunnels connect.

So, a few zones in game have 'underwater' states - at least there's Dagnor's Cauldron, Timorous Deep. Maybe soon to be Kedge Keep. 'help movement' talks about how to swim up and down.
Underwater breathing is integrated, including items like waterstones. You _will_ die from drowning.

Little update for merchants. if there are 2 merchants in a room you can now 'list from <name>' and 'buy x from <name>'. Sell doesn't care because they all buy at the same values.
You also inspect items on merchants now.

1. fixed a bug with items that have charges letting you use it unlimited amounts (thanks Lashar) 2. made sure anyone can equip a weapon in secondary even if they dont have dual wield - it just can't hit unless you have dual wield 3. made it so shields can act as a weapon in secondary if you have dual wield (1h blunt weapon) - more to come on this maybe some default weapon damage for shields 4. Pet naming is in (thanks Ghaglash). see help pets, and pets command. 5. improved the merchant's 'buy' command. you can buy partial name (at least 5 characters needed) and you can buy # item.. like buy 10 bones 6. augments completely restructured and simplified. see help augs. Basically there are now only a few types and some items have been given more aug slots (like 2 handers). 7. Pet bags will now show up on character browser and its contents, but nothing else from your inventory.
Shields can now act as a secondary 1hb weapon if you can dual wield (like war/mnk combo).
Shields no longer gain hand2hand skill in this way but they can gain 1hblunt.
Jewelry, rings, necklaces etc will now properly show their epic/legendary status.

Mobs were not hitting you when they caught up to you while fleeing. this was a bug. Now they will hit you when they arrive. THey will still honor their normal combat speed.
You won't hit them if fleeing because you're.. fleeing.

the run command has been improved. You can now save personal landmarks for each zone. The landmarks should save between rebirths.
By default you get 2 personal ladmarks and 2 more for each Druid rebirth. Just another rebirthing incentive.

Small repair to 'run'. if you run toward an npc, and it moves while you are running, you will continue to run toward it instead of stopping at the original place it was.
This is used via 'run #' where # is the index of the target in the 'look' target list

Rebirth bonuses are explained a little bit better in help rebirth. Ranger and druid now give +10 tracking, so you can get some basic tracking in any class by taking that rebirth.

Beyond the Void's first NERF!
Rebirth bonuses were reduced. There were some issues with the synergies, you could technically get multiple synergies at once. HP bonuses were reduced quite a bit. The benefits are still real just more balanced.
Rebirth now has a cost. +50 plats for the first, +150 for the second, +450 for 3rd and beyond. Reason: the game needs an economy.

UPDATES 3/26/26:
Combat auto-skills were added. YES this means skills can fire automatically. You can now set combat skills to fire automatically in combat. Commands: use auto <skill> use unauto <skill> use now separates combat vs non-combat skills and shows auto status.
Rogue combat flow improved. Backstab now gives clearer failure reasons. Rogues can backstab while soloing if the mob is targeting them (circling behavior), with a longer reuse in that case. Normal behind-target/opening behavior still works as expected.
Combat skill feedback is clearer. Skill use now reports what you used . More explicit “why it failed” messages were added for common combat blocks (range/state/invalid target conditions).
Berserker Frenzy is integrated and cleaned up. Frenzy activation/end messaging is present.
Taunt pacing/feedback adjusted. Taunt reuse was increased (less spammy). Better failure feedback for invalid taunt targets.

VOID UPDATE
A tradeskill hall was added southeast of the void rift. The hall contains a bunch of tradeskilling things (pottery wheel, forge, loom, oven, kiln, brew barrel) and a bunch of vendors. I doubt they have 100% coverage on all tradeskill items but its a start. Someday we need plane of knowledge to be open for full coverage.
Research vendor Eric Rasumus was added near the necromancer guildmaster.
Fishing vendor was added in the tradeskill hall.

Currently you can only move your own objects from a container, and you can only combine items that you placed in them.
The reason for this is, the trade market on voidmud is still undecided. Once players start showing up we need to control transferring items until we have a plan for the economy and a mechanism to trade.

Fixed (I think) a bug where the enemy could hit you after you die in the same round, resulting in 2 deaths.

4 custom augs exist. Three are slot 7/8 so should be able to add those to basically all armor for AC/healing/spelldmg bonuses.
one is a lifetap aug so you can turn any weapon into a lifetap.
Remember: if your pet is tank then the pet can get the healing augs and lifetap aug. Your pet also gets a portion of your stats including healing.

Couple minor things today.
1. in 'score', AC was combining both AC and mitigation value. now it only shows AC 2. Gemcrafter Tessu in the void now has a book: Discoveries of Void-Touched Augmentations. This book outlines how to create the first Void-Touched aug which is an AC aug.
The Void-Touched augs are crafted from collecting items in the game. A few of the aug items will come from the planes (hate,air,fear).
The idea with these augs is you can substantially boost important stats like AC, healing, spell dmg what have you. Your pets also gain a substantial amount of some of your stats (healing, spell, str/agi etc) - discussed a bit in 'help pets'. Healing is pretty huge, if you can land a lifetap weapon it will benefit from the sum of your healing augs.
More augs to come soon.

The Hole is in game. You can get there from the void rift, it's currently a 'free' void stone because there's no way to walk to this stone in game.
Some notes about the hole on VoidMUD: 1. the hole is one of the wildest EQ zones in that there are many, many z-layers. 2. the hole on VoidMUD is flattened into only 4 layers. The first layer being the entrance up to the entire first 'castle'. 3. the first 'castle' is broken up into many smaller rooms to break up the spawns. I think it works pretty well. 4. all doors were removed from the hole.
End result should be a playable zone with all npcs in tact, but some parts will be greatly simplified. I think it will be a better mud experience anyways and harder to get lost

The mudlet target window now shows Target's Target. It doesn't show your target in this way because your target is the npc to the right.

Pet attack logic has been implemented. You can use the pets command to send your pets into battle. You can't make them back off yet, so use with caution.

Before today, NPCs would simply teleport to you when aggroed. Now they will run toward you at their run speed. Root and other things will work to prevent that.

I've tested getting from the zone-in island to the eye of veeshan using keys.
This zone has teleporters. They show up as light cyan on the maps. Look at the teleporter to see how to use it and where it leads.
The quest room is accessible and a few epics have been tested using these npcs.
note: the map is really basic, but it's functional. You can't jump off islands and fall to your doom. You also can't jump down from one island to another, but I will add that soon-ish as special exits marked by ?s.
