Target
Command reference: This page documents the in-game target command.
Target
On Beyond the Void, you usually need to target something before attacking it.
When creatures are near, look/scan shows a numbered target list like this:
t# ft away direction NPC 1 30 south a cave rat 2 55 (+20) east a gloom spider 3 15 north a crazed brute
How to read a line:
- The first number is the target-list number.
- The next column is the distance in feet (shown in bold magenta).
- Then comes the direction, and finally the NPC's name.
A distance like 55 (+20) means the NPC is 20 feet beyond its aggro range. As you close that gap, its colour shifts from bold yellow to red.
The colour of the NPC name shows how it feels about you:
green will not attack you on its own -- safe to pass.
bold yellow is aggressive but currently out of range.
red is aggressive and in range -- it may attack at any moment.
bold red is already fighting you.
Screen-reader mode also speaks combat difficulty at the end of each NPC line: blue, white, yellow, or red. Gray and green difficulty are left unspoken to keep routine target lists concise. This difficulty is based on NPC level relative to your level; it is separate from the aggression colour described above.
