Hold
Command reference: This page documents the in-game hold command.
HOLD
The 'hold' command sets an item in your hands for inspection or special use.
Syntax: hold <item> hold stop
Purpose: There aren’t many reasons to hold an item, but some spells and abilities reference the item you are holding. Identify can examine the held item, though cast identify at <item> is now the simpler form and does not require hold.
Usage:
- hold <item> searches your inventory for the named item and places it in
your hands. If multiple items match, the first suitable match is used.
- hold stop clears your hands so you are no longer holding anything.
Examples: hold Ancient Coin hold Ornate Dagger hold stop
Notes:
- Holding an item does not equip it for combat; it simply marks it as the
current item in hand for inspection or spell targeting.
- You can only hold one item at a time.
- If the item is not in your inventory, or cannot be held, the command fails.
When you cast Identify without specifying a target item, the game will attempt to identify the item you are holding. See also: help identify.
