Getting Started as a Dark Elf

Dark Elves begin in Neriak, the shadowed city beneath Nektulos Forest. It is a beautiful and dangerous home, but your first real goal is simple: find your way out of Neriak and into Nektulos Forest.

Getting out of Neriak can be difficult for a new player. You may begin in neriakc, neriakb, or neriaka. These are Neriak Third Gate, Neriak Commons, and the Foreign Quarter.

Nektulos Forest is your first newbie hunting zone. Run this route, beginning at the step matching your current zone:

  1. From neriakc: 'run zone neriakb'
  2. From neriakb: 'run zone neriaka'
  3. From neriaka: 'run zone nektulos'

Type 'run' after each crossing to confirm the next available zone line. If you begin in neriakb or neriaka, simply start later in the route. Walking and the Void Rift remain alternatives, but this run route is the skill you will use throughout the game.

Run follows mapped paths around walls and blocked terrain, making it much easier than manually navigating Neriak's winding passages. It may still take you past NPCs, so watch the room and map updates while traveling.

As soon as you zone into Nektulos Forest, look for your first Void Stone and touch it immediately. This will let you quickly travel back to Nektulos later from the Void. For more details, see 'help void stones'.

Once in Nektulos, stay near the Neriak entrance at first. Look for weak creatures and fight them one at a time. Use 'look' to inspect targets before engaging, and use 'target' and 'attack' to begin combat, or cast spells if you are a spellcaster.

Loot corpses with 'loot' and sell unwanted items back in Neriak for coins to upgrade your gear. If Neriak feels hard to navigate, use 'run' or the Void Rift. Once outside, touch the Void Stone so Nektulos remains available through the normal discovery-based travel system too.

To learn new spells or train skills, use 'cast into the void' to reach the Void - a central hub where all spell vendors and class trainers are available, regardless of your class.

Once you gain a few levels, you can explore deeper into Nektulos Forest, but be cautious. Some creatures and wandering enemies are much stronger than they first appear. Use 'run' to navigate large or confusing zones and move between landmarks, but keep an eye out for dangerous enemies along the route.
