Run
Command reference: This page documents the in-game run command.
RUN
The run command is the recommended way to navigate large, winding, or confusing zones. It can find mapped routes around walls and blocked terrain, making it especially useful in cities, forests, swamps, and sprawling zones. Running is an essential travel skill and the normal way for new characters to reach their first hunting zone.
usage:
run <x> <y> (example: run 340 530 will run you to Altunic Jartin in commonlands)
run # (runs you to any of your targets by number)
run <landmark>
run zone <name>
run remember <name>
run forget <name>
run camp
N / S / E / W / NE / NW / SE / SW (uppercase quick-run in one direction)
Landmarks:
Type `run` with no arguments to view known landmarks, personal landmarks,
and reachable zone lines.
Use `run <landmark>` to travel across the zone without manually entering every direction.
Zone exits:
Type `run` with no arguments to view reachable zone lines with the other run targets.
You can also use `zone` with no arguments for a dedicated zone-border list.
`run zone <name>` travels to the nearest usable custom zone exit on your current map layer,
then takes the final exit direction to enter that zone.
Personal landmarks:
`run remember <name>` saves your current location as a personal landmark in this zone.
`run forget <name>` removes a personal landmark in this zone.
Landmark names cannot be only numbers and must be 15 characters or fewer.
Personal landmark names take priority over known landmark names when using `run <landmark>`.
Personal landmark cap per zone:
2 + (your Druid rebirth count x 2)
Example: 1 Druid rebirth = 4 personal landmarks in each zone.
Target running:
`run #` follows the selected target and reevaluates as it moves.
Notes:
Run finds a same-floor path around mapped walls and blocked terrain.
If no safe mapped route can be found, run stops instead of charging into blocked terrain.
Intermediate rooms suppress the repeated zone name, daylight, and exit list while
still updating the map and showing visible creatures, players, items, and special descriptions.
Doors, special exits, moving targets, and aggro situations can still interrupt the route.
It might run you into aggressive enemies.
Once you cross a zone line your aggro from the previous zone drops.
Newbie travel:
Read `help race guides` for your exact route. In general:
1. Type `run`.
2. Use `run <landmark>` or `run zone <name>` for the next destination.
3. After crossing a zone line, type `run` again and continue the route.
Walking and the Void Rift remain alternatives, but learning to run is important
for travel throughout the game.
Use invisibility spells wisely (once you learn them). For example, Necromancer learns Gather Shadows at level 7. Gather Shadows is regular invisibility (good vs living), but won't help vs undead.
The stop command will stop your running.
